Thomas House is a residential boarding facility at Timaru Boys’ High School and has served the rural community providing 7-day boarding since 1908. An exciting opportunity exists to be a part of a highly regarded and successful school hostel. The Residential Manager works closely with the Director of Boarding and contributes to the wellbeing and day to day needs of approx 140 boarders. Our hostel mission statement is key to the development of our young men.

To be successful in the role you must have a genuine empathy for boys and a real interest in their education and development. You will often be the first point of contact for parents and caregivers, so strong communication skills are essential.

About the role:

Hours of work:

Term time 38 weeks -Fri 8.00am to 4.30pm.  Overnight Supervision of the Senior House Sunday – Thursday 10.30 pm to 7.00 am.   Available to attend to any illness, issues or emergency events. In addition – One week of five days following the end of Term 4 and one week of five days prior to the commencement of Term 1.  Two days in each of the Terms 1, 2 and 3 breaks.  On call for all emergencies term time.

 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in a pastoral care role dealing with adolescent girls
  • An understanding of different cultures and the needs of International students
  • Previous and/or current teaching experience (desirable but not essential)
  • Understanding of restorative justice practices
  • Experience in a leadership position managing Team Members
  • Experience managing budgets
  • Very strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Understanding and use of various media and advanced computer literacy skills
  • An ability to organise and facilitate pastoral activities for the students both onsite

and offsite

  • Appreciate the need to follow all College policies and procedures and to ensure the

wellbeing of staff and students, including Health and Safety

College is seeking an enthusiastic team player to support one of our busy Boarding Houses as the Day Matron/Assistant to the Boarding Housemaster (BHM). This individual will have a caring disposition, empathy with, and understanding of, teenage boys, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. They will also have developed effective professional relationships and have excellent problem-solving and administrative skills.

The Day Matron/Assistant to the Boarding Housemaster will work closely with the BHM and the Boarding House team to manage the domestic staff and day-to-day administration, assist with House events and activities and provide care for boys with medical/health issues. They will also liaise with other Boarding House staff to support and promote the House as part of the continuous improvement of the House environment.

The Day Matron/Assistant to the BHM will be a self-starter, a multi-tasker, and have the ability to work without supervision, when required, and exhibit an understanding of other cultures. The successful candidate will have experience in a pastoral role and knowledge of the culture and issues relevant to a boarding school environment.

The hours of the role will be during College term time, on a split day shift from Mondays to Fridays, 6.45am–9.45am and 2.30pm–7.30pm.

Ideally, the start date for the role will be 2 May 2022 and will allow for training/handover.

13 – 18 resident seven days a week during school terms.

e are looking to appoint a full time House Manager to assist the Director of Boarding of Epsom House with management duties and the care of students. Other responsibilities will be to maintain a safe and supportive environment for students at Epsom House and to contribute to the development of a learning environment in which the vision and values of the school and the goals of the school may be achieved within the specific context of Epsom House.  This is a senior position and a background in education with some previous experience in boarding or work with adolescents is desirable.  Experience in management, guidance or property management would be advantageous.
