Hostel Manager – Centennial House

This is a unique opportunity to join the staff of one of Auckland most successful schools in the exciting new role of Hostel Manager for the newly established girls boarding facility.

2022 will see the opening of Centennial House, our boarding facility for girls.  This House is within walking distance of the school and will see up to 25 places available for students.  Mount Albert Grammar School has a long tradition of boarding, with School House for boys boarding established in 1927.

This role will be varied, busy and challenging and is supported by the Board of Trustees, Senior Leadership Team and the Director of Boarding as well as other Centennial House Staff.  There are both strategic and operational aspects to the position.

The successful candidate will be expected to

  • Lead the team responsible for attending to the needs of Centennial House students and ensure students can comfortably relate to the adults in charge of their well-being,
  • Oversee the daily routines and duties involved in the smooth running of the Centennial House to ensure physical and emotional welfare needs of the students are met.
  • Maintain an environment in Centennial House where students are secure physically and emotionally

This position requires a person with

  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication and relationship skills
  • An empathy for teenage girls.
  • A strong moral compass
  • Strong organization, planning, management, reflection skills
  • Experience in leadership fostering teams

This is a full-time position, and the Hostel Manager – Centennial House is required to live on-site.  This position could suit a couple or single person.  The salary package includes accommodation, electricity and water.

Residential Master – Whanganui Collegiate School






The Residential Masters are live-in positions within our 7-day Boarding Houses which provide additional support to our unique House System.

Key Responsibilities

The Residential Master supports the House by providing pastoral care to our students and supporting the House ethos.

The duties of the Residential Master are:

  • to support the students of the House as required
  • to support the Housemaster and House Staff as required
  • to be on duty 1-2 evenings a week
  • to be on duty one weekend in three
  • to fully participate in the special character of the School

This may well suit an applicant who is studying or someone who has a small family. This position is fixed-term and will be reviewed annually.

About the role:

St Cuthbert’s College is looking to appoint a full-time, permanent Resident Boarding House Manager to join our team of committed Boarding House Staff. Reporting to the Director of Boarding, you will be managing a House of 46 Year 7-12 female Boarders. Our three Boarding Houses accommodate 127 Boarders.  You will have a great attitude, strong customer service skills, be energetic and have a consistently helpful and professional approach to our students and their families.  The attractive salary package includes onsite accommodation in a  two-bedroom self-contained apartment.

This is a key role and responsibilities are:

  • The effective management of the Boarding House and the Boarders;
  • The well-being and safety of our Boarders;
  • Assisting with the coordination and organization of Boarding House programmes;
  • Working closely with students, parents and designated caregivers in conjunction with the College staff;

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • A genuine interest in the pastoral care of teenage girls;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collegiately;
  • Enthusiastic, patient, flexible and reliable;
  • A team player orientation, with maturity and professionalism;
  •  Computer literate, good attention to detail, administrative experience and an accurate data/record keeper;
  • Experience within the health or education sectors (particularly working with teenage girls) would be an advantage but not a requirement;
  • Ability to communicate with empathy and understanding with adolescent girls;

–  A cheerful, calm and humorous disposition;

– Experience in pastoral care.

The successful applicant will work the following hours:

During term time

  • Sundays 10.30 pm – Monday 9:00 am;
  • Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 2.30 pm – 9:00 am the following day;
  • Attendance at Boarding House events as listed in the job description.

During term breaks 

  • 2 days in each term break, 8:00 am- 4:30 pm;
  • 1 week prior to the beginning of Term 1, 8:00 am-4.30 pm;
  • 1 week following the end of Term 4, 8:00 am-4.30 pm.
