This is an exciting opportunity to work at Southwell School. Southwell is a thriving independent school set 1.5km from the Hamilton CBD in a unique park-village setting.

We want a caring, nurturing, positive person to take on the role of “Boarding House Mother” to our amazing boarders. Our 50 male and female boarders, aged approx. 9 to 13, live at Southwell in a caring, structured environment created for them to thrive in. Ideally, the successful applicant would be able to move in on site and start at the beginning of Term 1 2018, being from 25th January 2018.

Reporting to the Head of Boarding, this position involves:

 Living on site in the school flat and having a range of responsibilities and roles contributing to the positive running of boarding life.

 Be on duty in the morning from 6.30 – 8.00am Monday to Friday, and evening hours from 4.00 – 10.30pm Sunday to Thursday, during term time.

 Administering medicine under the guidance of our school nurse and applying first aid when required.

 Carrying out some administrative / organisational and pastoral tasks.

Salary and package to be negotiated.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  •  To hold a current Teacher Registration
  • A passion for and preparedness to work hard to assist leading boys to becoming young men
  • Exceptional interpersonal, relationship and communication skills
  • A strong moral compass and a good sense of what this means for young men
  • An innovative and forward thinking approach, with a focus on implementing strategy.
  • Experience in leadership and strengths in fostering collegial teams
  • Strong management skills in planning, organisation and system improvement
  • Proven success in problem resolution and trouble shooting
  • Strong financial acumen and administrative skills
  • Enthusiasm for leading a dynamic, lively, inclusive and safe boarding hostel.
  • Experience in pastoral support of students, supporting their wellbeing
  • Experience in academic mentoring and educational support of boarders
  • Health & Safety knowledge
  • The ability to lead marketing and promotional activities for the Hostel.

Dean of Boarding

Waikato Diocesan School for Girls is an integrated Anglican day and boarding school with approximately 680 students. Reporting to the DP – Wellbeing, we are looking for an energetic and caring person to work in the friendly family environment of our Boarding establishment. Nurturing our girls and helping them to reach their full potential is the key focus of this role.

You will be required to lead the boarding team and facilitate positive links with the day school. Key responsibilities for this role include ensuring students are cared for physically, emotionally and spiritually, providing them with a boarding experience that is positive and conducive to their learning and development. This ensures that the boarding house operates effectively, preparing confident, resourceful and resilient young women.

The successful applicant may also be required to teach allocated classes (please state teaching subjects on application). Commitment to the school’s special character is essential.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills with the ability to foster positive harmonious relationships with girls and families. Previous experience in a school or boarding facility would be highly desirable.

On-site accommodation may be provided. This position will commence at the start of Term 1, 2018.
